What is Micro Needling?

MicroNeedling, also called Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles (microneedling the skin) in order to induce endogenous production of collagen.

Percutaneous collagen induction ( PCI ) therapy or medical microneedling is a technique where a fractional microneedling device with fine microneedles has been shown to increase the remolding of the skin by creating thousands of microscopic channels through the skin, to increase the formation of new tissue by activating the body’s wound healing cascade (hemostasis-inflammation-proliferation-tissue remodeling). It is also referred to as a non-ablative skin treatment. This means that the deeper parts of the skin are treated without removing the top layer of skin. It is designed to treat various skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, light scarring from acne and photo damage, and to improve skin color and other skin texture changes.

Microneedling is designed to stimulate your skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen, bringing about healthier and rejuvenated skin. The “micro-channels” created by the CosmoPen will allow topical solutions used in the treatments to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin for optimal rejuvenating results.
Microneedling can be used to treat all areas of the body including all skin types making it another versatile addition to GentleCare Laser Aesthetics to provide optimal results to all patients.
Most clients report a mild stinging or slight burning sensation that lasts for a very short amount of time, however, it really depends on the type of chemical used during the process. Alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy acids are quite gentle and are used for mild skin damage, fine lines and discolorations. Thanks to cutting edge technology such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser procedures that offer excellent results with little or no downtime, fewer and fewer clients are opting for seriously deep chemical peels
Facial Rejuvenation Acne and acne scarring Surgical scarring Stretch Marks Hyperpigmentation Alopecia (hair loss)
A topical anesthetic is used prior to the treatment to minimize any discomfort. The downtime is very minimal and you can usually return to your normal activity within 24hrs. You may experience some redness for up to 12 to 48hrs after treatment. There are usually no major side effects to this treatment
Most patients will start to notice improvement after the first treatment. More significant results will start to show after the 2nd and 3rd treatments but results may vary for each patient. Treatments are spaced 2-3 weeks apart and due to time it takes for collagen remodeling, you will continue to notice results over the next 6 to 12 months. Treatments can be combined with other interventions such as Botox or Dermal Fillers but this should be done at least 2 days after Microneedling or at least 4 days after Botox or filler procedure. During your consultation with Dr Tariq Khan, Tustin CA, he will determine if this will be a good fit for your aesthetic goals.
